How Stripe's fees work
On standard US pricing, Stripe charges 2.9% + 30¢ per successful card payment. International cards cost 1.5% more, and payments that need a currency conversion cost 1% more. On a $1,000 payment from a US card you receive $970.70. An international card leaves $955.70, and $945.70 if the payment is converted as well.
How to charge enough to cover the fee
Use I want to receive this amount to work backwards. Add the 30¢ to the amount you want, then divide by one minus the percentage. To receive $1,000 from a US card you'd invoice $1,030.18, or $1,046.34 from an international card. If you're thinking about passing the fee on as a surcharge, card network rules and some state laws restrict it. Read can you just add 3% for card? first.
Stripe through RivitPay
RivitPay's Pay button runs on your own Stripe account, so card payments settle straight to your bank at Stripe's processing rate. There's no RivitPay fee on your first $5,000 collected, and 1.5% after that. Stripe's own invoicing product adds a per-invoice fee on top of processing; RivitPay doesn't use it. The honest math on invoicing fees shows when each option is cheapest, including when Stripe on its own is.
Paying less than card fees
For larger invoices, a bank transfer is often free to receive. Clients who hold stablecoins can pay in USDC wallet to wallet with the crypto invoice generator, with no RivitPay fee. Compare PayPal on the PayPal fee calculator.
